#176 yellow rumped warbler painting

i decided to drop out the background in this painting. a departure from the photograph
for sure. i love how all the elements; the leaves, berries, acorns and bird all seem to
start to float.
i truly enjoyed painting this piece.

i remember thinking to myself when i first started it, i have no idea how i am going
to paint that leaf and get it to look nearly as beautiful as the tangible leaf.
i enjoy that diving into a piece not really understanding the way.

swift fox photographs

our friend hawkeye called one day to say he had found a fox and did we want to photograph it.
we ran right over to his studio.

such a beautiful animal. we assume a victim of road kill

i want to paint the image(s) below, but i not until i move into the new space.
my current studio is just too small for something so beautiful and sad.

my conversation with an owl

so last night before the weather got bad i was lying in bed reading, when i heard an owl outside.
i quickly got up an went outside to see if i could hear it better. I have wanted to see an owl for awhile.
this was not a screech owl, but one of the bigger ones. his call was the “who cooks for you” call.
anyway, I could totally hear him and i started calling back to him as best i could.
I must have been out there for 10 minutes talking to that owl, then lo and behold, there he was flying towards me,
totally silent, not moving his wings.
he landed on the nearby telephone pole. we checked each other out and then he flew on.
it was so awesome!
