first winter chipping sparrow

I was sitting on my front stoop with a new friend, Gillan, when an old friend Elena pulled
up to the curb. I thought it was a little odd she would choose to come out of her car walking
towards us with a blue plastic dog poop bag in her hand, but quickly concluded she was
bringing me a gift; a little bird.

This bird is a tiny one, maybe 3 inches at it’s longest. So delicate and perfect. I love the little
ones, they work better with my vision of the work and in relationship to the other
objects I want to include.

I am battling with myself about whether I want to create an arrangement, which speaks
to me about honoring, or a just came cross appearance that talks to a noticing, a paying
attention to the small things.

#179 coastal live oak acorns painting

very similar to the previous piece, yet as Leon pointed out a bit more explosive,
which i like. i saw it as tumbling.

these pieces are becoming close to my heart;
a beauty and sadness, celebration and surrender

boat tailed grackle photograph

i found this grackle in my vegetable garden a couple of days ago, (i am afraid i caused his
demise as i was kind of hoping to find a dead grackle so i could photograph and perhaps
paint one). he is a rather large bird, which didn’t allow me to do my close up sort of thing.
i arranged him in a number of different locations, but ultimately ended up liking this
image the best. more of a direct honoring than the other still life’s with birds i have been
creating.

#178 coastal live oak acorns painting

in the last few paintings i have began to drop out the smallest details on the ground.
i like the way it suggests another dimension, a falling into, a floating through, a transition.

drawing

I decided to start drawing again, to explore some ideas quickly. This drawing has
something to do with death and rebirth, or a slipping away. not sure yet.
