Colm Toibin quote from the novel, “The Master”

“He loved the glorious silence a morning brought, knowing that he had no appointments that afternoon and no engagements that evening. He had grown fat on solitude, he thought, and had learned to expect nothing from the day but at best a dull contentment. Sometimes the dullness came to the fore with a strange and insistent ache which he would entertain briefly, but learn to keep at bay. Mostly, however, it was the contentment he entertained; the slow ease and the silence could, once night had fallen, fill him with a happiness that nothing, no society nor the company of any individual, no glamour or glitter, could equal.”

we’re moving into the new studio

for the last week or so leon and i have been seriously moving into our new space, and the studio is starting to show itself.
i nearly cried the other day when i walked up the stairs into the space. it’s been in my head for so long, and then pow! there
i was standing in it.

i am trying to stay present to the daily tasks at hand to get it up and running, but it is hard not to let my mind wander to all the
possibilities this new space might allow for us. there is talk of gallery shows as well as photo workshops and classes. and of
course i’m envisioning many hours of creating in this space.

one immediate task on hand is getting a big work table so i can have a place to work on some new collages. i think i
want something on saw horse legs so i can easily move it around and break it down when needed. after that the task at hand
will be to find a place for the many boxes of slides of old painting, film negatives, and journals of my younger years.

Dharma Yoga’s new studio

The yoga studio where I most often practice, Dharma Yoga, has moved to a new location. It’s a bigger space and as an added bonus, right across the street from the Wheatsville food co-op. One of the things that originally drew me to Dharma Yoga was the space itself, adorned with Tibetan thangkas, Quan Yin, a statue of Buddha, candles, and now in this new space, even a painting of my own. Dharma Yoga offers a yoga practice that emphasizes body, mind and spirit. All the teachers are great, and with the opening of the new space, more classes have been added.

Hope to see you there!

Ampersand Art Panels flyer

I’m excited. Ampersand Art Panels, which are produced here in Austin, have sponsored me. They have created this flyer that I suppose they will have available at stores and hand out at conventions, etc.. It is a great product so I am happy to be a part of this.

Special thanks to Andrea Pramuk at Ampersand for all her hard work.

Oh, and I think if you click on the image it will get bigger so you can actually read it if you so desire.

Road Trip West

My friend Scott and I just drove from Austin to L.A. I am out here working on a new body of work. The road is a wonderfully relaxing place for me. Nothing to do but drive, drive, drive. Most of my road trip photos are taken while still in the car trucking down the highway. But when a gorgeous sunset presents itself, you have to pull over and enjoy the moment. Here are two for today. Thanks Scott, you are a perfect travel partner. – brian
